Pregnancy: Weeks 33 and 34 – Nesting
With just over a month to go, I’ve finally had the desire to start preparing our home for Deuce. Up until this point, I’ve been avoiding it. Thankfully, the nesting hormones God designed Mommies with took over and put me to work.
I don’t know why I put off shopping, cleaning, planning and preparing for Deuce for so long. I’m very excited about having a new baby in our lives. I can’t wait to meet Deuce and see what he/she is going to be like. I can’t wait for Moanna to have an itty bitty sibling. Still for whatever reason, I couldn’t bring myself to get to work for this baby until now. I have a few theories. There were so many other things unrelated to Deuce that needed to be done before Deuce arrives. I wanted to enjoy our lives as a family of three and center the world around Moanna for a little bit longer. I have more theories along these lines, but it could also be that biologically it just wasn’t time for me to nest.
I have been busy the past two weeks running around and shopping for the things that we need for Deuce. I’ve also bought a few things that we really wish we had when Moanna was new to the world that we didn’t. I have everything we need for Deuce except for one thing. Socks! SOCKS! SOCKS! I thought it was hard finding gender neutral onsies, the only clothing an infant really needs in August in Atlanta, but we have managed to find enough of those (including lots of the classic whites) to get us through until we meet Deuce and are ready to venture out on a clothing shopping spree. However, I have been searching for socks high and low, and they all come in packs that have pink or blue, or they’re too big to fit on a newborn foot. I’ve searched every where from dollar stores to department stores, with no luck. I know the little monkey is going to kick them off every five seconds, but they are still needed and I can’t find them! It’s driving me totally mad.
Now that I have purchased everything (minus SOCKS) that I need for Deuce, I’ve started to clean and do little projects. They’re all not really related to Deuce’s debut, but they are things that I know won’t get done if they’re not done before that time comes. I’m waiting on the serious cleaning hormones to kick in so that I can have this place really shinning and sparkling. Thinking back to my pregnancy with Moanna, I don’t think I ever really got Cinderella urges. We were all waiting for me to go nuts and start cleaning like my life depended on it, but it never happened. If that urge doesn’t come with Deuce, we may be in big trouble. Maybe Moanna will get the Cinderella urges on my behalf if I can’t pull it off.
Outside of nesting, there haven’t been any other major developments in pregnancy land. It’s just been more, more, more of the pregnancy discomforts. More contractions, more weight, more heartburn (oh the heart burn), more hip pain, more peeing, more fat feet. The past couple of days the Braxton Hicks have been intense, probably due to the full moon which has thankfully come and gone. The next full moon isn’t until August 13th, so if Deuce wants to be a full moon baby, that’s perfectly fine with me. This full moon would not have been so good, but August 13th, I’ll take it.
Deuce has been doing well in his or her little womb. Very active and growing. Deuce is positioned the same way Moanna was, so I’m getting kicked and prodded in all of the same places. Deuce loves to stretch out his legs and oh my is that uncomfortable. I have to push that little foot back in and ask Deuce to please be nice to Mommy. I had to do the same thing with Moanna. So far Deuce hasn’t gotten the hiccups, and Moanna had the hiccups all of the time. All of the time.
We are six weeks and counting. If Deuce is an early bird like Moanna, we could be meeting Deuce in about a month, and I find that to be a wee bit terrifying. If Deuce is not in such a rush, it could be another two months before we meet Deuce, and I find that to be even MORE terrifying.

We’re Having a Baby!

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about socks right away. Despite what grandma says, you won’t really need them in an Atlanta summer. And by the time you do need them, you’ll know if you are buying blue or pink and you can add them to the shopping spree list. But that’s just me and it must be noted I’m a strong supporter of bare baby toes. I think covering them is a crime (unless it is actually cold).
Good point. Baby feet are so cute!
I should also confess, that I’m one of THOSE people who wear flip flops in the winter (in Ohio) unless the snow is deep enough that I really can’t. And even then, I still wear them sometimes. So I may not be the best example to follow when it comes to proper foot coverage.
Haha! I love my flip-flops too, but I hate cold weather so I can’t pull them off in the winter
Got to see my first grandbaby a few days ago via ultrasound snapshot. He/she looked like a cocoon with owl’s eyes…already adorable! You look fabulous! When I was in the final stretch, Save the Whale Foundation showed up thinking I needed an escort back to the ocean.
Hahaha! I needed that. Since I posted this yesterday, I’ve felt terrible. I don’t know what Deuce has managed to do in there but each step I take I can feel Deuce grinding again’st my spine and pubic bone and oh is it unpleasant.
I think I nested for you yesterday. I couldn’t stop!! I even told Jai that I felt exactly like when I nested the day I went into labor with you.I even went on to say I hoped It didn’t mean you were having a baby down there!!! You don’t need the socks silly!
Three girls from our ward down here have had their babies in the past few weeks. Thankfully, I was not one of them. Perhaps on the next full moon.
[...] don’t believe in the whole full moon brings about babies bit, but like I mentioned in my last pregnancy update, I believe in the magic of the full moon. The Braxton Hicks were very intense during the full moon [...]
