In an Effort to Kill a Bug
Believe it or not, this here cracked windshield is the result of an altercation with an itty bitty bug.
We were on the way home from church when it happened. Moanna was in the backseat munching on pretzels. Steve and I were in the front discussing our reflections on our church meetings and discussing what to make for lunch. It was all pretty typical of our post church drive home.
Until…
We stopped at a stoplight. Steve spotted a bug on the windshield – a very tiny bug. For some reason this bug was a serious issue for Steve. He felt that the bug needed to be eliminated from the world.
Steve hit the windshield with the back of his fist. The bug was unharmed and still going about his business.
Thud.
Still the bug was there unharmed.
“Seriously bug?”
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
CRUNCH!
“Oh S*&%! I’m so sorry. I just broke your car.”
“Yes you did! WHY? Why would you do that?”
“It’s not supposed to do that! I was barely tapping!”
“I don’t care! Why would you be so stupid?”
“I know! I’m really sorry!”
I burst into tears.
“Babe, it’s OK! We’ll get it fixed. I call first thing in the morning when the shop opens and get it taken care of.”
“Why do you always have to break my stuff? In the past week you broke one of my trifle bowls, my lemonade carafe and NOW my windshield! Do you have any idea how much this is going to cost?”
“I know! I know! I’m really sorry. It was stupid.”
“Really stupid!”
“Really stupid! I’m sorry.”
Sniff. Sniff. “It’ll be OK.”
“Seriously though, the windshield isn’t supposed to do that! I’m just grateful that it cracked because I did something stupid and something didn’t happen when you and Mo were in the car alone.”
“True… You didn’t even kill the bug though! It was on the outside of the windshield the whole time!”
“You didn’t marry me because I was smart.”
In Steve’s defense… He wasn’t hitting the windshield hard at all. Also, the car wasn’t hot. It was a cooler day, we had parked in the shade at church and we waited for the car to cool off before we climbed in the car to head home. The guy who came to replace the windshield said that it shouldn’t have happened, and that there must have been a weakness or defect of some sort.

Oh my! Ya, probably a good, all be it expensive, accident. These things happen for a reason. Still… over a bug? Outside?!? LOL!
I about spit my precious coffee when I read “You didn’t marry me because I was smart.” LOVE IT! LOL!!
Tell me about it! You can’t stand in the way of a man on a mission
Crazy!! Wonder what made it so weak???
When the guy replaced the windshield he said he also replaced a seal or something that was worn out, so maybe that was the issue?
He is correct. Everything happens for a reason Renee. God must have know that it was faulty and would rather have it fixed to keep you and Mo safer
I am happy that no one was hurt or harmed.
