Pregnancy: Week 29, 30 and 31- Things are Heating Up
Good news! August came early and it is bloody hot in Atlanta. I love the summer, but I’m pregnant which means I’m hot and cranky and fat and emotional.
I swear one day I’m going to stop reminiscing about my pregnancy with Moanna because as soon as I go, “Huh? I haven’t had that pregnancy ailment with Deuce like I did with Moanna. I wonder when it’s coming?” I get hit with said symptom. Most recently, hot flashes that leave me soaking in sweat and pretty much being hot all the live long day and night. With Moanna, I remember having hot flashes on a regular basis and waking up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat. The first few months I was pregnant with Deuce, I had some hot flashes, but they were the kind that I’ve grown accustomed to each month during PMS season, not the soaking in sweat and tearing off my clothes kind. After that, didn’t have any thermostat issues for months. Until NOW. The first time this flattering development hit was during church when I was talking about faith during relief society. I don’t mind speaking in front of people. I don’t get nervous, shaky, hot or sweaty when I have to talk in front people. However, about 45 seconds into my little blurb I was hot and red and sweating. These hot flashes come at any time, but mostly it happens at night – it’s just one more thing to keep me from getting any sleep.
The rising temperatures and my increased obeseness is starting to slow me down. It takes at least twice as long as it used for me to complete tasks. I can only accomplish so much before I get winded and exhausted. After a load of laundry and cleaning up the kitchen I need a nap. I need to stop for a water break when I get to the top of the stairs – so pathetic. Also, if I’m too active Deuce suddenly goes from feeling like a sweet little growing baby to a lead bowling ball being dropped into my pelvis, and then for fun I’ll get hit with some Braxton Hicks contractions and as an added bonus some times my feet get hot and puffy. My feet also get hot and fat if I sit still for too long without elevating them.
I was doing pretty good at keeping my hormones in check. Until now, I’ve had few emotional breakdowns and I was doing pretty good at not lashing out at people if they got in my way or looked at me wrong. That poise and grace has left the building. Now it’s best if you all keep your distance. If you are baring gifts, it may be safe for you pass through the gate, but I’m making no promises. I’ve snapped at everyone in my house almost daily and lost my patience with perfectly well meaning strangers and a few not so well meaning strangers too. I’m also pretty sure that I’ve cried at least once every day for the past week. Why? Hard to say my friend, hard to say.
We had another good midwife appointment this week. For the second time in a row, I passed my drug test. OK, it’s not a drug test, but it sure feels like one! Deuce is still head down and is holding onto a heart rate of 140 beats per minute. So far we are anticipating another baby on the smaller side of the spectrum. Moanna was only 5lbs, 6.5oz and I’ve been consistently measuring two weeks small, so we think that Deuce will be another small baby. However, you never know. Babies have been known to be tricky, tricky little things.
There’s less than 10 weeks, LESS THAN TEN WEEKS, until my due date. It’s another one of those hurry up and wait, time to panic and time to be excited milestones. The countdown is on. Deuce is coming. It’s time to put together the infant crib and consider organizing the onsies and booties. I did buy a pack of diapers the other week! I know it’s little, but it’s progress.

Wow! Less than 10 weeks already? Talk about not blinking. I feel like if I blink, Deuce will have a name and a squishy newborn picture here. And blech, I remember being large, round, and unhappily hot. May the ice water be with you!
Scary isn’t it?
