Moanna’s Special Day
I think we’ve finally recovered from our hangovers from Moanna’s birthday. She kept us busy and wore us out.
The night before Moanna’s birthday, I decorated the kitchen table for the big breakfast she requested.
Moanna got dressed in all pink for breakfast. She requested cheesy eggs, pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream and chocolate milk to drink.
After breakfast we got ready and went to the pool for a while. When Moanna was done splashing around and soaking in the sun, we showered and headed to Build A Bear.
The helper at Build A Bear told Moanna to rub the bear’s heart on her nose to make it cute. (As you can see, Moanna changed clothes)
Then she had to fill her bear with fluff.
From there it was time to pick out an outfit for the bear. Naturally, Moanna picked out a princess outfit.
Steve and Moanna took the bear to a dressing room and got her into her new outfit.
Awww!
Moanna picked out shoes to go with the princess dress.
Once the bear was dressed and properly accessorized, it was time to name the bear and make a birth certificate. Meet, Abby!
On the way home, Moanna passed out in the car. Her nap didn’t last long, and when she woke up she was ready for round two.
Moanna wanted a cookout for her birthday dinner. She asked for cheeseburgers, corn on the cob and mashed potatoes.
After dinner was cleaned up, it was time for presents. She got packages from four different states! (Note that Moanna is wearing yet another outfit. If you count her pool outfit, she went through 4 outfits)
Doesn’t every four year old need an iTouch? I think it’s pretty ridiculous, but we do crazy things for our kids. To dial down the crazy, let me tell you that it is an older 8GB model that was Steve’s for about a week. He showed Moanna how to play one game, and somehow she figured out how to unlock it and play the other games on it. Very soon it became clear that the iTouch wasn’t going to be Steve’s for very long unless he wanted to enter into serious negotiations with Moanna to get it back. Instead of fighting the battle, we slapped a pink case on it, wiped it clean, loaded it with kid friendly apps and locked down everything else on it. Happy Birthday Moanna!
We ended the big day with a “Raspberry Sparkle Cake.” That was the sloppiest cake I’ve ever made, but Moanna thought it was the greatest cake ever.
The next morning we were all slow to get out of bed, and we spent most of the day in a zombie state. These things happen when you have too much cake and fun in one day. So far she hasn’t said too much about her fifth birthday, but I know it’s coming because I heard her making up a new birthday song while she was in her play house the other day…

I’m not much of one for pink, or polka dots for that matter, but that build a bear dress is ADORABLE!!! It looks like she had a wonderful day!
We need to retire that dress soon! She has worn it out and it’s on the verge of being way too small!
That sounds like a perfect way to spend your birthday at that age. Oh, and the cake? Love it! That little trick makes cakes look so nice, and yet it’s so simple even this inept cake decorator can do it. I never shared the mess that was my daughter’s 4th birthday cake back in March — piping words should be easier than I make it.
Oh man! In all of my birthday cake adventures with Mo I’ve never tried piping letters. You’re brave!
