Pregnancy: Week 28 – Hello Third Trimester
Today is a big milestone in pregnancy land for Deuce and me. Today we are celebrating the beginning of our third trimester! The final stretch has begun.
First! My liver is happy again! We had our midwife appointment yesterday and I did my usual pee in the cup bit. For the first time during this pregnancy my pee didn’t rat me out for misbehaving. Not only did my pee show that my liver functions had improved, it went from being at the worst end of the spectrum to perfectly clear and happy. I want to celebrate with a big huge juicy cheeseburger. My pee also told the midwife that I’ve been doing a much better job at drinking water. What she doesn’t know is that prior to our appointment, Steve and Moanna trapped me in the kitchen and forced me drink an entire liter of lemon water. I was hazed complete with Moanna chanting, “Drink. Drink. Drink.” So cruel to do such things to pregnant women, especially when the drive to the midwife takes nearly an hour in stop-and-go traffic. I headed straight for the bathroom and overfilled my cup.
I have to say I’m quite proud of my pee. I don’t know if it was all of the beets, lemon water and dandelion root I’ve been downing, or if it was cutting back on the spaghetti and cheeseburgers. Either way, I just want to say that I kick major butt, and am feeling much better about the world. When I found out that my liver was protesting during our last appointment I was feeling discouraged and like a terrible mother. However, seeing that my hard work paid off and having proof that it is possible to correct our health issues naturally through what we eat, I feel very confident that I’m doing a good job taking care of myself and my family.
You can’t tell right now, but you’re getting mooned. Yesterday the midwife was doing her usual poking and squishing around my belly and found that Deuce is now head down. Yay! – and please stay there! She also said that his/her back side is pushed up against the left side of my belly. So there you have it, a nice view of a little rump. Do you remember me telling you about how last Monday Deuce was moving constantly and it was really painful? I really think that’s when the flipping was happening. I think the little one spent the whole day working to get into position because oh holy cow it was not pleasant at all. I was feeling quite used and abused by the end of the day, but if it got this kid ready to come into the world head first then I’ll take it- gladly.
Moanna has learned that she can wake up Deuce by poking my belly and talking to Deuce. Since Moanna has learned this trick, the poor little one gets no peace. She still doesnt’ want to feel Deuce move, but she likes to watch my belly change shapes and jump. They play together poking back and forth and Moanna thinks it’s hilarious. She spent ten minutes the other night cracking up to the point of tears because Deuce was moving around so much.
I had to take my rings off a couple of nights ago. My hands are starting to get a little chubby in all this heat and I’m having some kind of strange reaction to my rings. I’m hoping it’s just hormones mixing with the heat and the metal in my rings, and not a long term issue because it ain’t pretty. There is a nearly perfect band of dry, red, itchy, flaky, burning grossness where my rings used to be. In a couple of weeks I plan on soaking my hands in ice water and putting my rings back on for my maternity pictures.
Now that we’ve hit the third trimester mark, things are going to start happening more rapidly now. From here until 36 weeks, I will see my midwives every two weeks and then from that point forward every week. It’s time to start preparing our home and lives for a new baby. It’s amazing how different it is the second time around is as far as preparation goes. The first time, it was all “WHAT!? WE’RE HAVING A BABY?! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH IT AND WHERE ARE WE GOING TO PUT IT AND HOW IS IT GOING TO FIT INTO OUR LIVES?!” The second go around has been more like, “Yeah, we’re having a baby. It will come and we’ll figure out what to do with it.” However, now that we’ve clicked over to the third trimester and time is quickly ticking away our la-de-da approach is wearing off and we’re starting to think about how we’re going to rebalance this pendulum we call life once Deuce arrives.

Yay for third trimester! Congrats! When I was preg, I bought fake rings when my hands started swelling up.
I’ve thought about getting an obnoxiously big junk of bling to wear, I’m just concerned that I’ll react worse to the cheap metal
Yay for the third trimester! People say it seems to last forever, but I found the last trimester flew by. Maybe its because I was in that WHAT THE HECK AM I GONNA DO WITH A BABY WHERE WILL I PUT IT mode… either way, its close!!
I’m very hot and cranky today so at the moment I’d like for the next three months to hurry it up… later when I have time to think and be cool I will be like whoa now
Ha ha! You just reminded me of how I froze my husband when I was preggo last summer. I had the a.c. on very cold, while the ceiling fan was also going. The living room was like a meat locker to him, but just bearable to me.
oh yeah… I was pregnant in the winter. Summer in Atlanta while pregnant is a whole other ball game I’m sure!
Yay I love this post! I swear the day I hit 3rd trimester I was like “oh this is easy peasy” and the next day I couldn’t get out of bed and my fingers swelled up to sausages. You look fantastic, by the way!!
I’m starting to slow down and get cranky and uncomfortable… my poor family
That’s great news! I’m glad your liver is happy again. And I guess now you’re almost 29 weeks. A week’s worth of time never seems more critical than when you’re pregnant, wouldn’t you agree?
