Unbelievable

Moanna at the Hospital and First Day Home 034

Can you believe that a week from today I will have a four year old?

I find it to be completely unbelievable.

I’m not in disbelief because she still seems so young, or she’s growing up “too fast.” No that’s not it at all. She’s very mature for her age. She has the wisdom of a 50 year old woman and the attitude of a 15 year old at times. And while she is growing up fast and is wise beyond her years, I don’t have that boohoo feeling about it that makes parents so weepy. There are moments that I miss her being a wee one, but those moments come and go quickly because I love watching her grow and learn, and I can’t wait to see what she’ll discover next.

I’m in disbelief that Moanna is about to be a four year old because she has been a “three and a HALF” year old for what feels like an eternity now. People always want to know how old she is, and I always have to say “three and a HALF’ because if I leave off the half, I get in big trouble. Moanna always has to take at least “three and a HALF” bites of each thing on her plate. She’s sat in time out less than 10 times (maybe less than 5) since the new year began, but when she’s in timeout it’s “three and a HALF” minutes. A lot of Moanna’s day has centered around being “three and a HALF.”

I’m also in disbelief that Moanna’s birthday is next week because we have been planning for her fourth birthday since the day after she turned three. I’m being completely honest when I say that every single day Moanna talks about her birthday. Every day at least once a day we hear, “Can I have this for my birthday?” or “Can we do this for my birthday?” or “This year I want this at my party.” or “Let’s pick out what kind of cupcakes we’re going to have.” If I were the betting kind, I would bet you that on June 5 when Moanna wakes up she’s going to start planning her fifth birthday. That is if she doesn’t start when we’re tucking her into bed on June 4 when the day of celebration is over. Pray for us when it comes time for the child to get married because she is going to want it all and not a single detail will be missed.

To distract Moanna from the anticipation of turning four a week from today (yesterday she started requesting specific snacks and picking out mine and Steve’s outfits), I’m going to see what else she wants to accomplish while she is still “three and a HALF.”

well…on June 5th if she starts musing about turning 5, remind her it will be 5 full minutes in time out…so enjoy 4 as long as possible!
