Mutant Georgian Bugs

April 037

What is with the bugs here in Georgia? I’ve been to far away lands and tropical jungles, and those bugs have nothing on the bugs I’ve seen here.

This particular guy isn’t quite “mutant” worthy, but he lived on the wall for several days without moving a hair or feather . I thought he was dead until I tried to move him and he started to move his wings. Eventually I was able to get the guy out of the house unharmed.

Other bugs I am not so kind  to. The ones with furry backs, a million legs, fangs, claws and other weapons of mass destruction must all die. Right now I’m waging a war against the mosquitoes that left more than a dozen bites (I stopped counting after 12) on the back of my leg during dinner the other night. When I’m done, these bugs will think twice before feasting on a pregnant lady who hasn’t had a full nights sleep in weeks.

Seriously Georgia! Where do you come up with these bugs?

… In other news. I need to go lock the doors, the bank just down the road got robbed and from the sounds of the circling helicopter I think a manhunt is in full force.

THANK you! Yes, the bugs down here are huge and creepy, and I like finding someone who agrees with me instead of feeling like a wimpy little northern girl who doesn’t like daddy-long-legs the size of her hand. Honestly, though, I draw the line at the giant wolf spiders invading our basement. I hope our next job will lead us to Alaska.

I’ll take the bugs over Alaska, but these bugs are something serious and they are not welcome in my home!

We used to live off of a swamp in Gainesville, so we weren’t strangers to mutant bugs. However, I noticed this mountainous area has its fair share of creepy crawlies. The mosquitos? Out. Of. Control! I thought they were huge near a swamp! It dawned on me that Gainesville had budgeted for bug spray trucks — out here, not so much. We don’t even have trash pickup we’re so rural.

Seen any of the 13-year cicadas yet? That last Wordless Wednesday post of mine shows one hanging out in the backyard. The trees are rife with… amorous cicadas. Blech! And to think in my childhood I used to delight in finding their shedded shells.

We’re going to have to get our yard sprayed or whatever it is that they do for mosquitoes because I can’t handle being eaten alive every time I want to sit outside. I haven’t seen any cicadas yet, but I remember thinking they were cool when I was younger too.
