A Glimpse of Alabama

Alabama 102

We just got back from a church service trip to Birmingham, Alabama to help with the tornado relief efforts there. Right now I don’t have the words to describe what I saw and felt, but this picture says a lot.

More pictures and thoughts to come in the next few days…

I was doing my virtual tornado chasing that night and when I looked at a couple of the storm velocity radars…they were so huge I had a sickening feeling this is what we were going to see. Quite humbling, isn’t it, to know we are absolutely powerless when nature decides to throw a temper tantrum?

I was up until 2am that night watching the weather online and stalking radars. We are so very grateful, lucky, blessed that the storms split to go around us. It could have just as easily happened here.

How wonderful of you and your church! We had a tornado from that same storm that has devastated our Glade Spring, VA community. All of the helping hands that have come together to clean, to saw trees, to prepare food, or to offer other assistance have truly made God present to all. I agree with you that there are no words to describe the damage wrought by the storm, but witnessing God’s presence in all who have come together afterwards is truly beautiful.

The beauty that follows such a disaster is quite remarkable.

They’re going back this weekend, so it’s possible that they will take a another trip over while you are down here.

Pleasant Grove is a suburb of Birmingham. That’s where the picture my son found flew from. I’m hoping it made it safely back to its owner by now.
