World of Coca-Cola – Atlanta Day Trip
If you are a fan of Coke and happen to find yourself in Atlanta, the World of Coca-Cola is a site to see and taste. Watching a three year old spit soda from Asia all over the place is a riot.
Our original plan for Family Day was to hit Zoo Atlanta, but the weather was crappy and cold, so we put our date with Po (the baby panda) on hold, and went to the World of Coca-Cola instead. It was a much warmer and drier (is that the right way to use that word?) destination.
The World of Coca-Cola is in downtown Atlanta, with several other Atlanta attractions, and restaurants situated within walking distance. Most people spend about 90 minutes inside the World of Coca-Cola, so it’s a great choice if you only have a few hours to enjoy the city, or want to hit multiple attractions in one day. I highly recommend the a Georgia Aquarium; dolphin exhibit opened April 2nd! The World of Coca-Cola costs $16 per adult and $12 per child. Tickets include all of the attractions and exhibits, ie no sneaky fees to watch the 4D movie five times. Coupons are hard to come by for this attraction, but you can get a discount on your tickets if you purchase combo tickets to multiple attractions in Atlanta. Because we are such big fans of Coke, we collect MyCokeRewards Points, and were able to cash some of our points in for free tickets. Score!

Welcome to the World of Coca-Cola. When we entered the museum, we spent some time in here learning about Coke, admiring the wall of TVs and going potty while waiting on the next kickoff movie to start.

These bottles were in various places throughout the World of Coca-Cola. Artists from around the world were given the challenge to create bottles that represented their countries.

Coke around the world.

This memorabilia is from all over the globe, and some of it dates back to the 1800′s when Coke was first invented.

Fancy-shmancy Coke car.

Coke machines of days gone by.

Steve’s favorite exhibit was the wall of Olympic relay torches. If I remember correctly, the bottom left is the torch from the 1996 summer games in Atlanta.

The bottling room wasn’t working properly when we went through. Bummer.

I was prepared to take a picture of Moanna and Steve together, but girlfriend marched right up to that bear by herself. He plopped down on the floor, scooped her up and she was in heaven. I’m not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, go Mo! On the other hand, Mommy’s not comfortable with you being so brave around giant animals.

When we got to the tasting room, we grabbed a cup and got to work.

We tasted nearly everything. Some of it was delicious, some of it was horrible. By far, Africa had the best drinks.

Moanna tried everything we put in her cup without hesitation. She did spit one out on the floor the second it touched her tongue, but she went right on to tasting the next exotic soda. I plan on using that against her when she refuses to try new foods. “Don’t you remember when we went to the Coke Factory and you tried every drink they had?”

Moanna helped herself to some Coca-Cola Classic.

Yum Coke!

At this machine you create mix your own drink. Moanna made something totally gross, but she said it was “DE-licious.” I made myself a glass of water (all of the Soda had gotten to me), and spilled half of it on ymself trying to take this picture. Thank goodness it was just water.

We stopped at the American Idol couch for a family picture.

We handed the camera over to a friendly face, so that we could get E in the picture too.

Everyone gets a souvenir bottle of Coke on the way out. Reach for it… Reach for it…

Got it! In order to leave the World of Coca-Cola, you must exit through the gift shop which is easily the largest gift shop I have ever seen.
If you prefer for your family outings to have educational value to them, don’t mark the World of Coca-Cola off your list. Just because it’s all about this fantastic fizzy beverage, doesn’t mean it’s not an educational destination. In addition to the kickoff movie, tasting, 4D movie and giant gift shop, there is a lot to learn at this here little place. If you have younger kids that are into learning about how things are made, then the bottling room will fascinate them. If you have older kids that are into learning about people from different countries, then they will love the exhibits (tasting included) portraying Coke around the world. If you have teenagers in economics and marketing classes, then they will enjoy learning about how Coke has changed the face of the marketing and advertising (the commercial room was a lot of fun). If you have disgruntle teenagers, they will just roll their eyes and pretend not to have fun. We all learned a few things on our Family Day, but I can’t lie, our favorite was the tasting room. Watching all the face as everyone tastes crazy drinks from around the world is FUN-ny!

Sounds like you guys had a blast! And thanks for the heads-up about the dolphin exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium. As soon as we’ve got some fun money, we’re going to have to make an excursion to Atlanta.
George and I did this when we did the aquarium with my cousins! So much fun! We had an awesome tour guide guy in the little room. His name was Emilio.
Our guide was a riot.
It was a great time! If you hit Coke and the aquarium on the same trip, you can get a discount on combo tickets.
Great pictures lady! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun, I do looooove coke. <3
That first sip when the can cracks open is quite amazing.
