Four Point Plan for General Conference with a Preschooler
This weekend is General Conference ! Unfortunately, Steve has to work, so Moanna and I are on our own. Don’t worry, we have a plan to keep us focused and entertained.
Printable Activity Booklets
Thanks to dedicated Mommies and other brilliant members, there is a plethora of General Conference packets on the internet. They are packed with coloring pages, simple crafts, recipes, games and so on. They have packets for nursery children all the way up through adults. I browsed through a few dozen sites looking at activty booklets, and picked out two on SugarDoodle that would work best for us.
Moanna and I will be using the two booklets, and a few activities from lds.org. I will be printing two of each. One for me, and one for Moanna. As a convert, I don’t recognize a lot of the faces, and my mind tends to wander. I am determined to be a good example for Moanna, so I willwork on my name and face recognition and work to stay focused right along with her.
Snack Buffet
Moanna is a grazer. We are working on teaching her the importance of eating a full breakfast, lunch and dinner with just a few snacks. However, General Conference is not the time to fight that battle, so we are going to embrace Moanna’s inner grazer. Before each session of general conference begins, we are going to set up a few snacks on the coffee table. Over the course of the weekend, we’ll have cheese cubes, bananas, crispy treats, chocolates, strawberries, chips and dip, and granola bars.
Get Outside Between Sessions
After a long wet week, it is finally going to be warm and sunny this weekend. In order to give Moanna the best opportunity to be focused and reverent during sessions, I’m going to give her plenty of time between sessions to run wild and use up her energy. Before Conference starts each day, I’m going to send Moanna outside to run around and get some vitamin D. Between sessions today we are going to go buy flowers to plant, and maybe get a special lunch or snack. Between sessions on Sunday, we’ll plant our flowers and make a special lunch at home. In the evenings, we’ll have dinner outside and play outside some more.
Crockpot Dinners
I am a big fan of my Crockpot (I don’t use it nearly as often as I should), and during General Conference, it’s my best friend. Before things begins today, I’m going to throw a pork loin in the crock pot with a few ingredients to make Hawaiian Pork. When conference concludes for the evening I’ll make some rice and cook some frozen veggies. The end. If we have enough leftover from today, then I’m off the hook for tomorrow’s dinner. If not, I’ll throw a beef something in the crock pot and let it work its magic while Moanna and I snuggle together with our activities and watch the talks.
Here’s to a spiritual and stress free General Conference.

Great ideas. I wish I had an effective battle plan for my (barely sick so fussy and impatient) 20 month old. Nothing seemed to work. Tomorrow I’ll try to time her nap during the first session so we can actually sit and focus for a bit.
You poor things. I hope the nap timing works so you can enjoy tomorrow’s sessions.
