The St. Regis Atlanta – Review

St Regis and Standards 009

Welcome to The St. Regis Atlanta located in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, Georgia. By far, this is the nicest hotel I’ve had the opportunity to stay in – ever.

Everyone loves a nice hotel, and The St. Regis Atlanta is top of the line. As a Hotel and Tourism Management major, visiting a hotel is a field trip for me (I love field trips), and I start investigating every facet of the experience a hotel is offering from the time I arrive until the time I leave. The St. Regis Atlanta was like a candy store for me because every detail was executed beautifully.

Hotel rooms at The St. Regis Atlanta start at about $400.00 per night for your basic room. Thankfully, we were staying there as a reward for Steve’s successful year, and CUTCO picked up the bill. Gotta love a company that likes to spoil their employees for a job well done. With that being said, if luxury hotels were in our budget, I would have no problem paying $400.00 for a night here. It’s totally worth it.

This is the entrance to the room we stayed in. The foyer contains two closets, a small table and bench and a small counter space with drawers underneath. By the front door there is a fancy light switch with several buttons. You can press one button to set the lights to soft, another to bright, another to turn them all on and another to turn them all off. There is also a button to turn on your privacy light and I think the other button was to page the butler.

A bellman brought up our bags and placed our things in the closets. Before he left he told us a little bit about the hotel room and how to get in touch with the butler. The hotel offers 24 hour butler service. What he didn’t tell us was that the butler wouldn’t be knocking; instead she would be ringing the doorbell. The doorbell!

Off to the right of the entrance is the bathroom. I’m actually taking this picture from the shower stall, and just to the right of the shower is the toilet stall. Nothing else mattered in the hotel room once I found this giant bathtub. I spent a good hour in the tub with my stress relief bubble bath that I brought with me from home.

I have to tell you a hilarious story about someone else’s experience in the bathtub. To be polite, I will keep this individual’s identity secret.

It’s approaching 2:00am and we’re all hanging out in someone’s hotel room sharing our adventures we’ve had in the nicest hotel any of us have every stayed at when when the truth comes out of our dear GUY friend’s mouth… “Dude! I took a bath too!! MAN! I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone that. I can’t believe I made it all the way until 2am without telling anyone that I took a bath. Whatever dude. It was AWE-SOME. I sat in there for at least half an hour watching TV. Did you know that the remote was water poof? Isn’t that the craziest thing you’ve ever heard? So anyhow, I sat in there until I started to wrinkle. It was the best bath I’ve ever taken.. er I mean the only bath I’ve ever taken. But dude, I couldn’t figure out how to get the water out of the thing when I was done. I couldn’t find a plug or switch anywhere. I was like is it just going to know that I’m out of the tub and drain on it’s own? I stood there for like twenty minutes trying to get the water to drain. I was worried my roommate was going to come in and find out that I had taken a bath, so I called the butler. Did you know there was a phone in the bathroom? A phone in the bathroom, dude. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Anyhow, they sent up an engineer to let the water out of the tub. An engineer! Do you know what he did? He lifted the metal plate thing up and the water just drained out.I felt like an idiot. Man I can’t believe I told you all that I took a bath!”… and that was the hardest I’ve laughed in a really long time. My paraphrasing doesn’t do it justice at all. Our friend is super excited and animated about everything, and it totally makes his crazy stories that much better.

…moving on…

The bathroom has double sinks and mirrors, and a magnified makeup mirror. Under the sink you can find extra large towels and a digital scale. If you look in the mirror you can see a big fluffy robe that I lounged around in after my bath. I took full advantage of every amenity in the bathroom from the scale, to the hair dryer, to the…

TV in the mirror! I’ve heard of TV mirrors before, but I had never seen one until now. At first I didn’t realize the mirror had a TV in it. All I saw was a little red dot in the mirror, and it wigged me out. I thought the room was bugged or that a snipper was aiming for me. I have added a TV in the mirror to my dream bathroom. I could watch the news while I’m getting ready in the mornings, and more importantly, lock myself in the bathroom for hours when I need to escape the world.

I don’t really know where to slip this in, so I’ll do it now. The only thing that was disappointing about our entire stay was the toilet paper. It was better than other hotels, but it was far below par compared to everything else we experienced at The St. Regis Atlanta.

The bedroom was like a dream for Steve and I. Steve has dreams of having a bench at the end our bed and I have dreams of having a chaise lounge chair (or any big comfy place to sit) in our room. To the right of the bed, there was an iPod station slash radio alarm clock. To the left was a super fancy touch screen phone slash master control. You could adjust the temperature and lights all right from the phone.

The other side of the room held the flat screen TV and a spacious desk with two large chairs. Under the TV was a fully stocked mini bar. We noticed that there wasn’t an iron and ironing board or a coffee/tea setup in the room. That’s because The St. Regis Atlanta will iron your clothes for you (the first item is complementary), or you can request for the butler to bring you an iron and ironing board. The butler will also bring you your morning coffee or tea.

When we arrived in our room, we were greeted by fresh scones and jam and local beers packed in ice. Since we don’t drink and Steve can’t eat pastries, the butler switched the beer and pastries for sodas and a big bowl of fresh fruit. They even allowed us to send the goodies we didn’t want to someone else’s room.

I forgot to take a picture of the room when we returned from dinner, but The St. Regis Atlanta has excellent turn down service. I came back to the room before Steve, and when I opened the door I was greeted by the sounds of classical jazz playing. Again, my first thought was that someone was in the room waiting in a closet to attack me, and the classical jazz was part of his ritual; I really need to stop watching Dexter before bed. Once I turned on the lights, I realized that the music was all part of the turn down service. On each side of the bed was a pair of slippers and a foot mat, on each nightstand was a fresh bottle of water and chocolate, and on the bed was a basket with a laundry bag, shoe bag and I think something else. Steve placed his shoes in the shoe bag and left them outside of our door for the butler to pick up for complementary shoe shining. The next morning Steve found his shoes outside of our room door tucked neatly in a basket with a newspaper.

This lovely orchid was in our room. I honestly don’t think the room would have been complete without it. It was so nice to come “home” to a living plant in our room.

Among the many things the butlers brought to our room were these gorgeous chocolate covered strawberries. The strawberries were an extra amenity that CUTCO added to our package for the evening. One of our friends had her privacy light on ,so she didn’t receive her strawberries before dinner. At about 2am (just before the bathtub story) she called the butler to locate her strawberries, and his response was, “I will speak with the kitchen and bring them up to you right away.” Not only is the butler awake 24/7, but so is the kitchen.

Yes, that is the iconic B of a Bentley. The St. Regis Atlanta will take you anywhere you’d to go like within a 2 mile radius of the hotel free of charge. Steve refused to leave until we got to ride in the Bentley, so before we checked out we had Charles (one of the two drivers employed by the hotel) take us to get smoothies for breakfast.

As a friend of ours said, “I could get used to this.” If  you are in the Atlanta area and looking for a luxurious place to stay, I highly recommend The St. Regis Atlanta.

There is so much to do here in ATL that it’s overwhelming sometimes to decide what we should do.
