Sleeping Like Kings

Sleeping Like a King 004

Because my husband loves me deeply, and because he loves me more when I’ve had good sleep, he got me a brand new huge honkin’ bed for Christmas. Sliced bread has nothing on this puppy.

Do you remember a few months ago when I was having a conniption fit about not being able to sleep because of our teeny little and incredibly uncomfortable bed? I’ve had many fits similar to that since then. These fits have included, but are not limited to, yelling at Steve in the middle of the night because he is taking up the entire bed, sobbing like a mourner after laying in bed for hours without coming close to falling asleep, throwing pillows because no matter how I lay I’m not comfortable, cursing everyone and everything for filling my head with thoughts that jerk me awake just as I’m drifting off, and so on… Steve actually slept on the floor one night to prevent such a fit. He came up to bed a few hours later than me, and for once in my life I was passed out cold. Instead of trying to get into bed without waking me up, he found some blankets and a pillow and slept on the floor. He either loves me a crap ton, or he is terrified of my insomniatic wrath.

Maybe sleeping on the floor was his motivation, or his crap ton of love for me, or his fear of my insomniatic wrath, or maybe all three. I don’t know or care which it was, but on Christmas morning I opened a set of king sized sheets!

As soon as we returned to Georgia from our holiday travels, we went bed shopping. We spent an entire day laying on beds. Very quickly we eliminated contoured, pillow top and firm, leaving us with plush. Soon after that, we narrowed our selection down to two different beds. It was then that things got serious. We were debating between the super nice and there for super expensive bed and a less than super nice bed with a much smaller price tag ($1000 smaller). We laid in each bed for a good hour or more talking, thinking, debating. Finally we told the sales lady, that we wanted to think things over but we would have an answer in a few days.

When we got home that evening, we started talking about our budget and what was realistic. Realistically, we couldn’t afford the super nice bed. But, could we afford to spend money on a bed and still not get the sleep we need? Probably not. Steve did some research and talked to a few more people at the store and found out something very interesting. We could buy the floor model for a serious discount. In fact the super nice bed would cost the same as the not so nice bed. It would be fully inspected and sanitized, and we could look it over before we signed for it. The catch was that a floor model does not come with a warranty or a 90 day return policy.  We took that information and slept on it (har-har) for another night. The next day, we decided that we really wanted the super nice bed, and that we had tested both beds enough to know that we wouldn’t want to return it for the other model, and that since we would be giving up the warranty we would fully inspect the bed before signing off on it.

Two days later my new bed finally arrived!

Isn’t this the most amazing bed you’ve ever seen?

Doesn’t it look like a fluffy yet supportive cloud?

You agree that it is 500 times better than this, right?

Don’t you also agree that we are in desperate need of some color? We want to get a long peace of art (maybe from Costa Rica) in vibrant colors like red, orange, green and yellow and a few fancy pillows to go with it.

Buy a canvas and some bright paint, and go crazy! I bet Moanna could do a pretty good Jackson Pollock… ;)

I’m so jealous!! I’m screaming for a new bed. We have a king but we have had it since we got married.
Definitely better and you need some color. I would have went for color sheets and some multiple colored bedspread. I have a phobia for white things.

A new bed makes you feel like a million bucks… so do new socks. We like all white on the bed because it’s easy to keep clean without worrying about the color fading. However, we need something to brighten the place up.

Tell me about it! Steve doesn’t snore much unless he’s sick, but he is a cover hog to the highest degree.
