Remembering Haiti Fundraiser
A year ago today, we were all padding through our usual Tuesdays. Some of us were merrily going about our business, and a lot of us were in disgruntle moods. I’m sure I was; I don’t like Tuesdays and winter makes me blue. Everything was running at a normal clip until the news came early that evening. Just as we were punching the time clock and getting ready for dinner, news began to surface about a massive earthquake in Haiti, and throughout the evening we continued to learn about the severity of the situation. The mundane padding through Tuesday ceased, and we all fell into a sort of silence – a silence of sorrow, fear, emptiness, gratitude.
For several weeks, the entire world was focused on Haiti. People from all over the world were donating time, money, talents, supplies, anything they could. It was like a fever of humanitarianism had infected us all; it was beautiful. However, as we know, fevers don’t last. Much too soon for Haiti, the fever broke, and we all returned to padding through life while Haiti continued to suffer through the recovery process. Despite our connection to Haiti, the fever in our household broke too. It was necessary (as I’m sure it was for most of you), for us to return to a sense of normalcy in order to care for our own families.
Thankfully, there are people and organizations that have remained in a fever to help Haiti. We work closely with an organization that has a constant fever for Haiti. Angel Wings International has been dedicated to bringing medical care to Haiti since 2003, and when the earthquake hit a year ago, their fever grew exponentially. AWI has been working nonstop since the earthquake hit to build a medical clinic in Jacmel, Haiti.

Steve and I personally know the people behind this organization, and their love for Haiti, their fever, is contagious. The fever is so contagious that we are holding our second virtual fundraiser on Me, Myself and Mommy! Our first fundraiser raised $172.00.
__________
Here are the logistics

At the end of January 31, 2011, we will do a big ol’ math equation to come up with the total donation. For example, it will do something like this:
550 – 325 = 225 new Likes * $0.25 = $56.25 raised from Facebook
On February 1, 2011, I will post the amount raised and update you on the progress of the clinic in Haiti.
