Favorite Thanksgiving Food
Thanksgiving is coming in just a few days. There is a lot of cooking and eating to be done. It’s going to be delicious. I have been day dreaming about Thanksgiving food for the past several days. I’m not kidding. I have my stretchy pants on standby in case I lose control and eat until I resemble that chick from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wouldn’t that be a site?
So as I fantasized about this holiday that is dedicated to cooking and eating, I started thinking about my favorite Thanksgiving food.
What is my favorite Thanksgiving food? There is so much to choose from. Is it the main event, the turkey? What about the stuffing, or do you call it dressing? How about the green bean casserole? Cranberry sauce? Maybe deviled eggs?
No. No. No if you call it the other name too. No. No. And no.
My favorite, favorite Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes. For me, mashed potatoes define Thanksgiving. I know it’s supposed to be all about the Turkey, but for me it’s all about the mashed potatoes. A spoon full of creamy yet lumpy mashed potatoes with butter and a little and pepper, and I’m in heaven. No gravy. Don’t ruin my potatoes with gravy. Sometimes I do enjoy a little bit of gravy on my meat, but not my potatoes. I could, and have, eaten multiple bowls of mashed potatoes in one sitting. Mashed potatoes make me happy, especially on Thanksgiving.
Your turn.

I’m with you. Mashed Potatoes. They just can’t be beat. I could let go of most other foods that are served at Thanksgiving. Mashed potatoes? Never.
Amen
Thank you. Putting gravy on my mashed potatoes ticks me off. They’re delicious all on their own and don’t need any help whatsoever. Hmm. Turkey skin. Fresh, hot, crispy turkey skin is my favorite. Every other time of the year, I’m all about cutting fat and calories, but on Thanksgiving I get to eat the crisp skin off the freshly roasted turkey, and it is soooo good!
I agree. The Holidays is NO time to cut back on calories.
Mashed potatoes WITH gravy is always my go-to comfort food when I’m able to eat after being sick, preferably beef gravy, too. But, my favorite Thanksgiving food is absolutely, positively the stuffing! Homemade cranberry sauce is a close second.
I’ve never been able to get on board with cranberry sauce. However, at VMI they whip butter and cranberry together and that I like.
Sweet potato casserole, my Maw-maws recipe. Yummmm…..my mouth is watering just thinking about it. And stuffing balls….can’t wait for Thursday!
Sounds yummy! You know, I never liked sweet potatoes until I had them savory. I know it’s loved by all, but I’m not a fan of sweet potatoes with sugar and marshmallows.
I have been assigned to make sweet potatoes for our potluck Thanksgiving this year. I found a recipe for them roasted in the oven with butter, pure maple syrup and pecans. Never tried it but don’t think anything can go wrong with those ingredients.
Our recipe involves coconut, pecans and brown sugar. I don’t like the whole sweet potato and marshmallow thing, but this dish tasted like a pie! I think pecans and walnuts can make any dish better!
Gotta have the gravy!!!!!!
Unless it’s mushroom gravy, I can live without it
