Woah Now Santa
Santa,
WHY are there Christmas wreaths all over the streetlights? It’s November 5th! Isn’t it a bit early to be campaigning? Seriously, people are craning their necks in disbelief, risking an accident. What’s next? Bumber stickers and cold calls?
I’m a big fan of yours, but you’re kind of stepping on Thanksgiving’s toes. I don’t know why you feel the need to start campaigning earlier and earlier every year. Plus who is in charge of your budget? Your spending is way out of line. Do you really need that giant display in every single mall? And what about the one at the zoo? It’s not like the kids are ever going to forget who you are or what you do for them. Don’t worry, you’ll get their vote. However, do you know who gets left out and forgotten? Thanksgiving! Why don’t you just cool your jets sleds, and share some of the spotlight with your good friend Thanksgiving?
Please don’t brush me off as a Scrooge. I’m a huge fan of Santa and the whole Christmas season. I am so excited for Christmas this year! I love the food, family, presents, Baby Jesuses (inside joke with Moanna), decorations, the spirit, the festivities. Like I said, big fan. However, I am also a big fan of Thanksgiving. I am so excited for Thanksgiving this year. I love the food, family, decorations, the spirit, the festivities. Big fan.
I think that it is by divine design that Thanksgiving comes before Christmas. As the year comes to a close, we need to take time to be thankful for the year that we’ve just had and all of the many blessings that are a part of our lives. We need to take time to be grateful for our harvest (if you will) before Santa comes to town and brings more gifts and joyous things into outlives. I deeply believe that if we fill our hearts with gratitude, our Holiday season (and lives for that matter) will be so much richer (materialistic and beyond) and more enjoyable.
Perhaps I wouldn’t be standing here with my hands on my hips if this rush to get to the Holidays was centered around the real meaning of Christmas – Baby Jesuses, family, friends, charitable gestures. However, your campaign is totally centered around spending, spending, spending. Buy, buy, buy. Haven’t you heard that our country and its people have been crushed due to over spending and debt? Once again, I’m a big fan of presents; I plan on giving and receiving a few of my own this year. But, why can’t you earmark some of your spending to promote charitable projects or Baby Jesuses the way you promote yourself at the mall? Or maybe you could throw a few dollars at Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving doesn’t have the high rolling donors that are lined up at your door. It could really use your support.
I promise you won’t lose your seat in the North Pole, you will probably gain more supporters along the way, if you just let Thanksgiving have his turn on the floor and cease your filibuster. I can also promise you that if you center your platform around the real meaning of Christmas – Baby Jesuses, family, friends, charitable gestures – that once Christmas is here and you’ve secured your seat in the North Pole for another term, your supports will remain active on your behalf throughout the year, and you will not have to work so hard during the next election season to get them out to the poles.
Forever and Always Yours,
Renee
