Groupon, The Ultimate Coupon
Before moving to Atlanta, I learned of Groupon. To me it’s the ultimate coupon. For those of you who are not familiar with Groupon, here’s the jest of it.
Go to Groupon (click here) and register. Choose your city, or a city that you visit often or are planning a vacation to, or a city that you have friends and family in that you may want to buy gifts for and sign up for “Deal of the Day” emails. Each day you will have an email sent to you with a “Deal of the Day” based on the locations you signed up for. These deals range from 20-90% off restaurants, spas, hotels, clothing stores, events, attractions and so on. If something strikes your fancy, buy it. If for some cosmic reason, the minimum purchase requirement isn’t met, then your credit card will not be charged for said Groupon. Since I started Grouponing, I’ve never seen a minimum not be met.
A few of today’s Groupons from around the country…
Atlanta – $10 for $20 at Buckhead Pizza (50% savings)
Baltimore – Half off Express Mini Detail from Empire Auto Dealers Baltimore (50% savings)
Dallas – $99 for a One Night Stay at Warwick Melrose Hotel (53% savings)
Miami – $35 for One Month of Unlimited Yoga Classes at Dharma Studio (77% savings)
Las Vegas – $9 for Half Dozen Cupcakes from The Cupcakery (50% savings)
Orlando – $15 for $30 at Sushi House (50% savings)
Richmond – $25 for $50 at Direct Menswear (50% savings)
San Diego – $3 for Two Chicken Sandwiches at Chick-Fil-A (50% savings)
Washington DC – $160 for 8 Laps and Instruction at Richmond International Raceway (57% savings)
Today I bought Atlanta’s Groupon because we love Buckhead Pizza (they have gluten free pizza). We are one of 1687 Groupons that have been bought today for Buckhead, and it’s only 1:12! In the past, Steve has gotten Groupons for haircuts and we’ve both got Groupons for Gap. We only buy Groupons for places that we frequent or for new places that we want to explore. I love that Groupon allows us to get to know our new city and not kill our budget. I also love that Groupon supports the growth and success of local businesses. While you will come across a Groupon that is nationwide (Gap for example), most Groupons for local, homegrown establishments.
To sum it up, I think Groupon is the bomb dot com, and you should try it.
