A Hilariously Hot Shower
SoOOooo. Where should I begin? Hmmm…
OK.
As you know the shower in our master bathroom was broken. For some reason the water wasn’t getting hot. The sink worked just fine but not the shower. We were showering at “the club” (aka the gym, but we have to call it “the club” because Moanna said so) every time we went and we showered in Moanna’s bathroom when we didn’t have an excuse to go “the club.” It’s not really a huge deal to shower across the hall, but our previous house didn’t have a master bathroom. All four of us were sharing a bathroom (Steve, Moanna, Josh and moi), so Steve and I were really excited to have our very own child free and brother free bathroom.
Yesterday evening when I got home from grocery shopping to restock our fridge and move on with life (I swear if that thing breaks again someone owes me $175 and some change) Steve came downstairs to help me get the groceries in. After we were done lugging everything in, he stayed with me in the kitchen to chat while I was putting everything away.
“I fixed the shower.”
“Oh yeah? How’s that?”
“That’s not important.”
“No really, how did you fix it?”
“Aren’t you excited?”
“You ‘fixed it’ by turning the dial the opposite direction didn’t you?”
“I told you I fixed the shower.”
“Tell me what you did.”
“Well the plumber called to say he would come by tomorrow. I told him I wanted to check on a few things first and call him back. I went into the bathroom checked some stuff out and fixed it.”
“Hahahahahahaha.”
“I don’t want to hear it. You never tried to fix it.”
“You know, every time I sat down to go pee and looked at that shower I thought, I wonder if Steve tried turning the dial both directions or if he turned it to hot and left it at that? I should check and see because sometimes common sense escapes him. No, no, he’s smarter than that; I’m sure he tried both directions. I didn’t check it because I had faith in you. This is too funny.”
“Shut up.”
“The internet WILL be hearing about this tomorrow.”
“Oh, that I am sure of.”
There you have it folks. You can’t make this kind of stuff up. My heroic husband “fixed” the shower. Bless his heart.
Since we’re in the Deep South now I felt that a “bless his heart” was in order. It makes me chuckle every time I hear someone say it.

I LOVE this story! Mostly beause I had had 2 similar in the first 2 years of owning my first house. Story 1) it was flooding under my kitchen sink. I placed a bowl there to get the water when I did dishes. For 2 months. I finally say i need to call a plumber but first let me take the plumbing apart and see if something is there. Turns out it just needed a new ring (it was broken)- total cost $.25 !!! If i had just checked it out when it happened, i’d have saved myself 2 months of emptying a nasty water bowl!! 2) God tests me again after my supposed lesson learned with the kitchen sink by “breaking” the ice maker in the freezer. Its not working. I pull out the fridge, all the hoses to the water look good, there no leak. What the heck? 2.5 month goes by. I decide to order a new hose just in case I am crazy. hose- $2.50 shipping for hose $8.00 . Hose comes 3 days later, 2 weeks go by before I go to install it. So my hubby and I are like we have to take off the back of the fridge to access all the wiring and where the hose goes. Shoot we need a technician. However I inspect the freezer size again. For some reason the water froze in the hose where the hose is in the freezer. I take the part out, run hot water through it and put it back in, and now the ie maker works!!! 3 months we went without ice for a stupid 3 minute fix! God is def. laughing at me. Lessons learned- REALLY investigate these “broken” household things yourself before you call the professionals.

Haha! Thank you for sharing those. I think that moving into a new home is so stressful that we prepare ourselves for major issues and repairs. When something breaks we automatically assume it’s major because everything else has been challenging to fix. Even though it is as simple as the water nozzle is turned the wrong way or we need a $0.25 ring our mind goes straight to “this is a disaster we should have never moved.”
We got stuck one afternoon on the island we all park our boats on when we go out on the lake. The boat just wouldn’t start and everyone was gone except us. A storm was blowing up and we wondered what on earth we were going to do? Well….after tearing off the motor cover and messing about with plugs and wires…hey….try using the right ignition key!!!
HAHA!
