Liver 4 Lightner – Las Vegas Raffle

On May 14, 2010 my Dad had his second liver transplant (Liver 4 Lightner – Round Two). With the exception of a few pain management setbacks and a small infection he has been doing remarkably well. When I talked to him the other day on the phone he said that he hasn’t felt this alive in over two years, and for the first time in a long time he feels like he has a lot of life left him. If you know what his life has been like in recent years, you know how much of a miracle this is.

This picture was taken of my Dad and his wife (George and Janet) just ten days after the transplant.

When someone has a transplant, the family is asked to raise $10,000 to help cover the expenses associated with the transplant and recovery. While insurance covers the majority of the cost (can you imagine paying for a new organ out of pocket twice?!), there are still a lot of costs that are not covered by insurance. Raising this money is vital to the success of a healthy recovery.

Several of my Dad’s cousins have gotten together to put together a raffle to help the fund raising efforts. Lois, a cousin who lives in Las Vegas was able to score a very sizable donation from the Hooters Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The donation from Hooters includes a two night stay, dinner for two and two tickets to a show! Not too shabby. Three cheers for Lois.

Rules to the Raffle

1. Tickets for the raffle are $5.00 each. For example, if you donate $20.00 you will have four tickets for the raffle.

2. To be entered into the raffle, please make a donation to the Liver4Lightner Transplant Fund by check or cash. For the mailing address, please email liver4lightner@yahoo.com.

3. Along with your donation please include, “Enter me into the Vegas Raffle”

4. The raffle will close on June 30, 2010 and the drawing will be held on July 4, 2010. The winner will be contacted and announced shortly after the drawing.

5. The Hooters Casino Hotel package includes the following:
~Two night stay in a Standard King Room at Hooters Casino, Las Vegas. Valued at $250.00 (reservations based on availability.
~$75.00 towards food and beverage at the Mad Onion Fine Foods & Spirits inside Hooters Casino Hotel, Las Vegas. Gratuity is not included.
~Two tickets to winner’s choice of available show at Hooters Casino Hotel. Maximum value of $100.00. Tickets based on availability.
***** Raffle winner is responsible for any and all air-fair and transportation to-and-from Hooters Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
