Haïti Aide
Long before the shattering earthquake on January 12, 2010, Haiti has been in desperate need of help. It’s hard to imagine that less than 800 miles from Florida lies the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, the forth poorest country in the world. Now more than ever, the people of Haiti need to be heard and helped.
For us, this tragedy has been on our hearts and minds nonstop. Steve’s best friend, Andy, is from Haiti. He lives here in the US, so he is safe. His sister and mom also live in the US. However, they have a lot of family and friends in Haiti. They have had contact from many of their close relatives and friends. They’ve also received a lot of heartbreaking news of those that did not make it, and there are some that are still missing. It’s impossible to imagine what they and hundreds of thousands of others are going through.
I’m grateful that so many reputable organizations are sending help to Haiti. I am grateful that countries from all over the world are coming together to bring Haiti the support they need to get through this tragedy. I am grateful for the individuals that are donating money, supplies and time to the people of Haiti. I’m hopeful that this aid in all forms will continue to pour into Haiti as they begin to rebuild their country, and their home.
I know so many of you are doing what you can to offer your support and prayers to Haiti. Thank you. I hope that you can continue to donate your time, money, resources and prayers to Haiti long after the media buzz wears off. I encourage you to take time to learn about the people of Haiti – their history, their government, their culture. It is only through educating ourselves that we can begin to understand what these people are going through, and how we can best help them now and in the future.

I choose the Red Cross. Sure, they’re probably getting the majority of the donations, but there’s something to be said for the reputation of an organization so massive that they span the world. Of course, you’re absolutely welcomed to go down to Coral Springs, FL to the Sweet Tomatoes on University Drive and give the dishwashers $50 — I’m wondering how many of the dishwashers I used to work with 10 years ago lost relatives to the Haitian earthquake. It’s such a sad thing to think about.
Well, if it were put onto an LDS church tithing slip (stating specifically to go to Haiti), that’s the only charitable organization that I know of which 100% of the money will go where you want it, guaranteed.
That’s worth thinking about.
i second the donation to the LDS church. it is also the only organization i’ve heard of that gives 100% of the donation to the intended cause.
Why don’t you ask Andy if there is a way to get that $50 directly to his family?
Hello! I would give to MercyCorps. Charity Navigator had an article about them after Katrina about how they had one of the most effective and efficient responses to that disaster. I’m trying to sell advertising on my site to support them, and have set up a page where other sites can sell ads on their websites and blogs to support that and other charities. I figure ads are something businesses need, and none of the money goes into paying to make a product or ship it, so I thought it would be a good way to raise funds. If you would help me spread the word about this I would really appreciate it.

Great giveaway! I would choose Red cross I suppose, because of course they are reputable and credible. That is also who I would have donated to myself, but I was limited to donations that could be made with PayPal. So, Red Cross, and again, GREAT giveaway
