Mommy Needs a Makeover
I am in need of a change. Unlike my husband who MUST get his haircut once a month (give-or-take), it’s been nearly a year since I last had a haircut. I’ve never been one of those girlie, girls. I’m sure it’s in me somewhere, and I do have my moments, but I just don’t have the time and energy or the finances to glamor it up on a daily basis. Sleep is too precious. However, recently I have felt the urge to play dress up, so I’m in search for a new coif.
For about a month now, I have been browsing the Internet for ideas, and toying with the idea of making a big change. With the help of fellow blogger Bailey at Makeover Momma, I’m getting dangerously close to scheduling an appointment and making the plunge. I’ve looked at long cuts, medium cuts, short cuts and really short cuts. I’d love to brave it and do something drastic. I would love to think that I’m going to wake up every morning and take the time to lather-rinse-repeat, dry, straighten, curl, spray, tease and flip. However, I know myself and I know exactly where the snooze button is. I’m going to need a haircut that will look good even on the days when I only have time to wash and run – if that.
So here you have it, the before picture.

It’s pretty much a blank canvas. Long, dark, straight hair. I try to curl it sometimes, but it falls as soon as I sneeze. Oh, and most hair products make my hair feel gross. Any ideas? I’m open to any and all suggestions.
Yes, the brows are also way past their prime… by about six months… shh don’t tell anyone.

Well I’m most definitely not a girly-girl (in fact I just wrote about that last week). I’m like you in the hair department – keep it long, wash as needed, pull it back if it’s in my face. Here goes some advice from a non-girly-girl who quite possibly doesn’t know what I’m talking about…I don’t usually like really short hair on most women. Some women look fantastic but I think it’s really hard to find a hair dresser who knows how to give a great short hair-cut. I think you should probably stick to chin-length hair – either in a bob or maybe chunky layers in the front. I look forward to seeing what you get.
OMG do go short! Your gorgeous but your blase’ hairstyle is doing absolutely nothing for your fashion. Here’s a link to 50 pages of inspiration to take a chance and leave your old self on the cutting room floor and go for what your really after but are having so much trouble voicing… a vibrant and sexy new you. Fortunately, unlike most women who drop into my salon seeking change, you have the pretty face and smallish features to really rock the new long fringed pixies. Find a great new stylist by approaching total strangers with edgy shorter fashion forward hair and eventually you’ll find your match. Book that appointment for a consultation, take a deep breath, bite your lip, snip, clip and color and enjoy your new off-road to exploration. Don’t look back and remember to post the results for others who stumble across your blog seeking the inspiration.

There are some websites you can try on virtual hairstyles. Just load a pic of yourself and play! My only advice would be to keep it simple and easy for yourself.
I was in the exact same place as you about a month ago (in fact my hair is exactly like yours- straight, dark brown etc.) After not cutting it for an entire year, I got a short angled bob. It has a million layers so even if I just roll out of bed without washing it in the morning I can get away with it looking decent enough to go to the store. It has been very liberating! With two kids under two I have no time at all to do anything for my appearance so it’s been nice to not have to worry about my hair.
My hair is EXACTLY like yours as far as “falling when you sneeze and the hair products”. I used to have long hair like you, but I finally cut it to shoulder length (sometimes just above the shoulder) with some layers to give it texture. It was the BEST thing I ever did for my hair! You can look at my Twitter picture (jtude) or, if you have a facebook account, you can friend me and the you can see come better pictures of my hair.
I have SLE Lupus, so being able to do my hair easily and quickly is a MUST. I don’t have to do anything to it other than blow-dry and curl with a curling iron if I need to look extra nice for some reason. The only styling products I use are a dab of styling gel and a small amount of mousse, which I put in after towel-drying my hair. If I ever need to use hairspray, I use something that gives volume, but doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave it feeling crunchy – one that lets my hair move freely, but holds the style.
I think you wold look awesome with shorter hair and you would definitely love how easy it is to fix it! Plus, there are several different ways you can style it with that length. I hope I was helpful! Like I said, feel free to friend me on facebook and look at my pics! Good Luck! ☻ ☺ ☻ ☺ ☻ ☺ ☻
